Overview
Island Peak is an ideal first Himalayan summit. After acclimatising on the Everest Base Camp trail, you train with climbing Sherpas at base camp before a pre-dawn summit push over glacier and a fixed-line headwall.
Prior experience with crampons and ropes is recommended but not mandatory; pre-climb training is included.

Days 1–2
Kathmandu, fly to Lukla
Gear check and flight to Lukla.

Days 3–10
Trek to Everest Base Camp
Via Namche, Tengboche, Dingboche and Gorak Shep with acclimatisation.

Days 11–12
Chhukung and Island Peak Base Camp
Climbing training.

Summit day
Pre-dawn start, summit and return to base camp.

FAQs
Do I need climbing experience?
No technical experience is required, but excellent fitness is essential. We provide training on fixed ropes, ascenders and crampons at base camp.
Do I need a guide for this trek?
Yes. Since April 2023, foreign trekkers in Nepal's national parks and conservation areas must trek with a government-licensed guide arranged through a registered agency such as Ascend DMC Nepal.
What travel insurance do I need?
Your policy must cover trekking up to the maximum altitude of the route and include emergency helicopter evacuation. We check your insurance before departure.
Can this trek be done privately?
Yes. Every trek is available as a private departure on any date, or you can join one of our fixed group departures.
