Overview

Nar Phu Valley Trek is a scenic and one hidden valley in between mostly visited trekking areas Annapurna and Manaslu region. Nar and Phu are two adjoined village development committees, geographically tucked on Manang district in Gandaki zone. Nar Phu valley is considered as one of the finest locations for observing the Himalayan peaks in the high land.

The Nar Phu valley trek is a combination of cultural, adventure and scenic phenomena. Trekkers get a unique opportunity to explore the traditional Tibetan villages, alpine scenery, high passes, glaciers, remote settlement, yaks, amazing rock formations, Gombas, lovely forest, ranging rivers and deep gorges. This trek also offers you the mesmerizing views of Mt. Annapurna I, Mt Manaslu, Mt Dhaulagiri and more than 19 snow-capped peaks of the Annapurna region. As this is restricted area trekking you need special trekking permits through the registered trekking agency.

This trek is rainshadow of the Himalayas and rarely visited. The best time to trek in the Nar Phu valley is during the Spring (March To May) and Autumn (September To November) seasons. The weather is clear and stable during these months offering optimal trekking conditions. Trekking to this off-the- beaten path is a perfect way to see how all Nepal once was, before the development of roads and modern conveniences. Nar and Phu are ideal destinations to explore unspoiled valleys, featuring raw Himalayas with ancient Buddhist culture

    Day-by-day itinerary

    1. Day 1

      Arrival in Kathmandu

      You arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, where you are greeted by your guide or representative. A short transfer takes you to your hotel in the heart of the bustling city. After check-in, you have time to relax or explore nearby attractions. In the evening, you enjoy a warm welcome dinner and a briefing about the upcoming adventure.

    2. Day 2

      Drive from Kathmandu to Dharapani (1,860m) via Besi Sahar

      The day begins with an early breakfast and a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dharapani. Passing through green valleys, rivers, and terraced fields, the route takes you via Besi Sahar, the starting point of the Annapurna Circuit. The long journey of 9-10 hours is rewarded with views of lush landscapes and traditional villages. Upon arrival in Dharapani, you check into a teahouse and prepare for the trek ahead.

    3. Day 3

      Trek from Dharapani to Koto (2,600m)

      Your first trekking day starts with a hearty breakfast. The trail ascends gradually through forests of pine and oak, offering glimpses of waterfalls and traditional houses. You cross suspension bridges and trek along the Marsyangdi River, reaching the small village of Koto after 5-6 hours. Surrounded by mountains, Koto offers a peaceful setting for an overnight stay.

    4. Day 4

      Koto to Meta (3,560m)

      Today’s trek leads deeper into the Manang region, with a challenging yet rewarding route. You enter the Naar-Phu Valley through a narrow gorge and follow rugged trails surrounded by towering cliffs. Ascending steadily, you reach Meta after 7 hours. The village provides stunning views of snow-capped peaks and marks the beginning of the high-altitude journey.

    5. Day 5

      Meta to Phu Village (4,250m)

      The trail from Meta to Phu Village is an adventurous one, taking approximately 7 hours. The path traverses barren landscapes, ancient chortens, and prayer flags. As you approach Phu, the landscape transforms into a remote Himalayan settlement. Upon arrival, you are greeted with the unique culture and traditions of the Tibetan-influenced Phu Gaun.

    6. Day 6

      Acclimatization at Phu Village

      To adapt to the high altitude, you spend the day exploring Phu Village. You visit the ancient Tashi Lhakhang Monastery and interact with the local people, learning about their way of life. The breathtaking views of Himlung Himal and the serene environment make it an unforgettable experience.

    7. Day 7

      Phu Village to Naar Village (4,110m)

      After a relaxing day, you embark on a 6-7 hour trek to Naar Village. The trail involves crossing suspension bridges and descending into gorges before climbing to the picturesque Naar Village. Known for its vibrant culture and traditional houses, Naar offers a unique blend of natural beauty and local heritage.

    8. Day 8

      Acclimatization at Naar Village

      Another acclimatization day allows you to explore the vibrant Naar Village. You wander through narrow alleys, interact with locals, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. This day helps you adjust to the altitude in preparation for crossing the challenging Kang La Pass.

    9. Day 9

      Naar Village to Ngawal (3,660m) via Kang La Pass (5,320m)

      This is one of the most challenging yet rewarding days of the trek. You ascend to Kang La Pass, which offers breathtaking views of Annapurna II, Gangapurna, and other peaks. After enjoying the views, you descend to Ngawal, a charming village with traditional architecture and a welcoming atmosphere. The day’s trek takes about 8 hours.

    10. Day 10

      Trek to Pisang (3,200m) and Drive to Besi Sahar

      The final trekking day involves a scenic walk from Ngawal to Pisang, descending through forests and pastures. Once at Pisang, you board a jeep for the drive back to Besi Sahar, enjoying the transition from high-altitude terrain to lush green valleys. The day’s activities take 7-8 hours.

    11. Day 11

      Drive Back to Kathmandu/Pokhara

      After breakfast, you begin the journey back to Kathmandu or Pokhara. The 4-7 hour drive offers a chance to reflect on the incredible trek and enjoy the final views of Nepal’s countryside. Upon arrival, you check into your hotel and have the evening free to relax or explore the city.

    12. Day 12

      Departure

      Your adventure concludes as you transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure. You leave Nepal with unforgettable memories of the Himalayas, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality.
