Overview

Tsum Valley Trek , a lesser known yet breathtaking journey in the Nepal Himalayas, takes adventurers through one of the most secluded regions, nestled in the northern part of the Gorkha district. Tsum valley trekking is ideal for those trekkers who want to explore the unexplored valley full of monasteries and beautiful villages. It is among the best restricted area trekking trails in the Himalayas. This route has recently become one of Nepal's most popular off-the beaten treks in the isolated valley of Nepal. Tsum valley often called the "Hidden Valley", a sanctuary of peace and spirituality.

The trek typically starts from Arughat or Machha Khola, progressing along the Budhi Gandaki River, through dense forests, terraced fields, and rugged paths. As trekkers ascend, they enter the magical Tsum valley, a sacred area for Tibetan Buddhism. The valley is dotted with ancient monasteries, colorful prayer flags, and stupas. Among the cultural highlights are Mu Gomba and Rachen Gomba, prominent monasteries where monks and nuns practice ancient Buddhist traditions. Local traditions in Tsum valley remain strongly Tibetan, with influences that date back centuries, adding a distinct cultural richness to the experience.

The scenery is another highlight, with awe-inspiring views of Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal and Boudha Himal ranges. Trekkers need a special permit to enter the Tsum valley, emphasizing its status as a restricted area to help protect its natural and cultural heritage.     1. Day 1

      Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport and Transfer to Hotel

      Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel. After check-in, you can rest and recover from your journey. Depending on your arrival time, you may explore the vibrant streets of Thamel or relax at the hotel. In the evening, there will be a briefing about the trek. Overnight in Kathmandu.

    2. Day 2

      Drive from Kathmandu (1300m) to Machhakhola (890m)

      Duration: 8-9 hours The day begins with an early morning drive from Kathmandu to Machhakhola. The journey takes you through picturesque landscapes, including terraced fields, rivers, and hills. You’ll pass through bustling towns and quaint villages, witnessing a mix of urban and rural Nepal. Upon reaching Machhakhola, you can rest and prepare for the trek.     3. Day 3

      Trek from Machhakhola (890m) to Jagat (1400m)

      Duration: 6-7 hours The trek starts with a trail following the Budhi Gandaki River. The path is a mix of gentle ascents and descents, crossing suspension bridges and passing through small settlements. You’ll encounter terraced fields and forests along the way. Jagat is a small village known for its unique stone-paved streets. Overnight at a teahouse in Jagat.

    4. Day 4

      Trek from Jagat (1400m) to Lokpa (2040m)

      Duration: 6-7 hours The trail today takes you through lush forests and picturesque landscapes. As you ascend, you’ll notice changes in vegetation and climate. You’ll cross several streams and walk alongside the Budhi Gandaki River. Lokpa is a quaint village offering stunning views and a peaceful ambiance. Overnight at a teahouse in Lokpa.

    5. Day 5

      Trek from Lokpa (2040m) to Chumling (2386m)

      Duration: 5-6 hours Today’s trail leads you deeper into the Tsum Valley region. You’ll trek through dense forests, cross suspension bridges, and pass by traditional villages. The climb is gradual, with plenty of opportunities to admire the surrounding landscapes. Chumling is a beautiful village with a rich cultural heritage. Overnight at a teahouse in Chumling.

    6. Day 6

      Trek from Chumling (2386m) to Chhokangparo (3031m)

      Duration: 5-6 hours The trail ascends steadily, taking you through terraced fields and traditional settlements. As you approach Chhokangparo, you’ll be greeted with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. This village is inhabited by the Tibetan-influenced Tsumba people, and you’ll have the chance to learn about their culture and lifestyle. Overnight at a teahouse in Chhokangparo.

    7. Day 7

      Trek from Chhokangparo (3031m) to Nile (3361m)

      Duration: 6 hours The trek continues with a gradual ascent towards Nile, the last village in the Tsum Valley. The trail passes through traditional villages and monasteries, offering insights into the local culture and religion. The landscapes become more rugged as you gain altitude. Overnight at a teahouse in Nile.

    8. Day 8

      Day Trip to Mu Gumba (3700m)

      Duration: 5 hours Today is dedicated to exploring Mu Gumba, the highest point of the trek. The monastery is a significant cultural and spiritual site in the region, offering a peaceful environment and stunning views of the surrounding peaks. After spending time at Mu Gumba, you will return to Nile for the night. Overnight at a teahouse in Nile.

    9. Day 9

      Trek from Mu Gumba (3700m) to Chumling (2386m)

      Duration: 5-6 hours The trail descends gradually as you retrace your steps back to Chumling. The journey offers another chance to enjoy the stunning landscapes and cultural experiences of the Tsum Valley. Overnight at a teahouse in Chumling.

    10. Day 10

      Trek from Chumling (2386m) to Philim (1570m)

      Duration: 6-7 hours Today’s trek takes you further downhill to Philim, a vibrant village known for its agricultural fields and stunning views. The trail passes through forests and small settlements, offering plenty of photo opportunities. Overnight at a teahouse in Philim.

    11. Day 11

      Trek from Philim (1570m) to Machhakhola (890m)

      Duration: 6-7 hours The trek continues with a descent towards Machhakhola, retracing the path through lush forests and alongside the Budhi Gandaki River. The trail is a mix of ascents and descents, with opportunities to interact with locals along the way. Overnight at a teahouse in Machhakhola.

      Max altitude: 1,570 m

    12. Day 12

      Drive from Machhakhola (890m) to Kathmandu (1300m)

      Duration: 8 hours After breakfast, you will board a vehicle for the long drive back to Kathmandu. The journey provides a final opportunity to enjoy the scenic countryside of Nepal. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu.

    13. Day 13

      Final Departure

      On your final day, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for some last-minute shopping or sightseeing. We hope you leave with unforgettable memories of your Tsum Valley adventure.
